Steve Janzen – Former Professional Basketball Player/Current Secondary School, Teacher, and Coach

Coach Janzen is a former Trinity Western Spartan standout shooting guard, co-captaining the team in his senior year. After completing both his Human Kinetics and Teaching degrees, he pursued his dream of playing professionally in Europe. Coach Janzen finished a seven-year career playing professional basketball in Germany and is currently a Teacher and Basketball coach at Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary. He is eager to share to youth ‘what it takes’ to ELEVATE their game to the next level, and inspire the next generation through his experience, passion, and knowledge. Coach Janzen has extensive basketball camp coaching experience (since 2000), 7 years experience coaching various youth club teams in Germany, and has coached high school basketball since 2012. Coach Janzen has completed his Masters Degree at University of British Columbia in Education (Curriculum & Pedagogy). Using his vast experiences and knowledge of basketball and with his instructional abilities as a teacher, Coach Janzen is great at developing aspiring basketball players.

  • Professionally: Member of the Monchengladbach Lions (9ppg, 3rpg) 2005, Member of the Iserlohn Kangeroos (9ppg, 3rpg) 2005-06 , Member of the Osnabrueck P4Two Ballers (17ppg, 5rpg) 2007-09 , Member of the Iserlohn Kangeroos (19.5ppg, 6rpg) 2009-10 (German 2nd Bundesliga Basketball).

ELEVATE Hoops Nights, Camps, Club Teams, & Private/Small Group Training Coach

Coach Reimer was a standout point guard at MBCI in Winnipeg, Manitoba in high
school. He trained the Trinity Western University Spartans as a strength and
conditioning coach during university, working under Andrew Heming. He has
trained high school, university, and professional athletes during the course of his
career.
Coach Reimer grew up with a strong passion for the game of basketball and loves to
help young people improve their skills and abilities on the court. He continues to
play basketball on a regular basis and enjoys learning about and implementing new
training methods. Reimer is currently the Physical Education Teacher and Grade 6-7
Boys Basketball Coach at the Cloverdale campus of Surrey Christian School. He is
trained as an NCCP basketball coach and certified as an NSCA strength and
conditioning specialist.

.A look into the career of Mark Reimer:

  • High School: Selected as a KCAC All-Star and Athlete of Distinction at MBCI in Grade 10, Graduated from Winnipeg Adult Education Centre with the Governor General’s Award in 2007.
  • University: (CIS) Interned as a strength and conditioning coach with the Trinity Western University Spartans, training the men’s and women’s basketball,
    volleyball, and soccer teams (2010-2011), interned as a strength and
    conditioning coach with Volleyball Canada (2012).
  • Coaching: Manitoba U15 Provincial Girl’s Team (2010-2011), YMCA (2012), Gray Academy Raiders (2013), Southridge Storm (2015), Pacific Sea Wolves (2016), Seaquam Seahawks (2016-2018), White Rock Christian Academy Warriors (2016-2018), and Surrey Christian School Falcons (2018-2019).
  • Education: BHK and BA in Political Studies and Philosophy (TWU).
  • Certification: ISTC-SSR, NCCP-T2T (Trained), NSCA-CSCS, CSEP-CPT, FMS-II, and SJA-SFA, CPR C, & AED.

Coach Galindez – ELEVATE BASKETBALL Hoops Nights, Camps, & Small Group Training

Coach Kris Galindez played his high school basketball at Clayton Heights Secondary. He started playing for the Senior Boys Basketball team in Grade 9. Ever since then, he was the starting point guard for the team, as he offers great leadership on the court. He achieved that spot by being a great listener and a hard worker. He was able to lead the team to provincials in 11th grade, which had not been done in many years. He also led the team to beat the number-one ranked school in the province in his senior year. Even though their season was cut short in their playoff run, Kris left a remarkable legacy at Clayton Heights. Coack Kris left the school achieving many great awards, most importantly, he was able to motivate and inspire his younger peers.

Coach Kris had played in numerous high-level basketball competitions throughout high school and was given a chance to play college basketball in California, West Coast Baptist College.

He grew up learning to work hard in everything he did and to always aim as high as possible in life. Coach Kris started coaching in 2019, where he has built his love for teaching the next generation. Just as Coach Kris pursued to be the best player he could be on the court, he now strives to be the best coach he can be!

JACOB DOERKSEN

Former Professional Basketball Player (Germany)

6’7” forward from Abbotsford, British Columbia, played for Rasta Vechta (1st League Germany) in 2013-2014, averaging 10.4ppg and 4.6 rpg. He was also a teammate of Steve Janzen when they both played for the UBC Hannover Tigers in Germany in 2012, where he averaged 21.7 points, 7.7 rebounds and two steals per game in 33 games, Doerksen was named  Germany Pro B Center of the Year, as well as being named to the Germany Pro B First Team and Germany Pro B All Import Team.

Jacob Doersken is a graduate of Trinity Western University, and averaged 20.9 points, 8.6 rebounds and 1.6 rebounds per game over his final three years in school.  He was twice voted to the CIS National Tournament All-Tournament Team; he’s a two-time First Team All-Canadian, and in 2009 was voted the CIS All-Canadian Player of the Year.


MAREK KLASSEN

Current Professional Basketball Player (England, Turkey, Fraser Valley Bandits and Former D1 All American)

As a sophomore, led Point Loma (Div. 1) in scoring with 11 points per game…Started all 31 games…Made 43 percent of his 3-point shots and 48 percent of his shots overall…Led PLNU with 37 steals…Shot 72 percent from the free throw line…Second on the team with 78 assists…Also pulled down 3.2 rebounds a game.

As a freshman, team MVP and an All-GSAC selection… started 28 of 31 total appearances… averaged 12.5 ppg and 4.4 rpg… season total of 388 points with 104 assists, 136 rebounds, three blocks, and 35 steals… shot .444 (138-311) from the field and .726 long-range… scored double in digits 22 times with four games over 20 points… season-high 26 points on Dec. 11 versus Azusa Pacific… Midnight Madness Dunk Contest Champion.

High School:
Played four years, earning three varsity letters at Yale Secondary School under head coach Al Friesen… awarded MVP of Province and Player of the Year in British Columbia his senior campaign… also played soccer, volleyball, football, and ran track at Yale.

Professionally:
Currently playing his third year of professional basketball. Klassen was selected as an all-star after his first year playing in England and currently is playing in his second year in Turkey.


RANDY NOHR

Former Canadian National Team & Professional Basketball Player

  • Back-to-back AA high school championships and an MVP award at Aldergrove Secondary in 1993-94 and 1994-95.
  • Won two CCAA national championships and twice garnering honours as a first team BCCAA all-star.
  • Named a CCAA All-Canadian, CCAA player of the year and MVP of the national championship.
  • Won consecutive CIS titles with St. Francis Xavier in 1999-2000 and ’00-01.
  • Nohr played professionally in Europe for three years, winning a Danish Cup and Danish Championship with SK Arhus in 2003-04.
  • Member of Canada’s national team for four seasons, representing his country at several major international competitions, including the 2005 FIBA Americas, 2003 Pan American Games, 2001 Goodwill Games and the 2001 World University Games.
  • Randy Nohr was hired on as UBC’s first ever full-time assistant coach in April 2005, bringing a wealth of knowledge and winning experience to the program.

JAMES HUDSON

Former Professional Basketball Player (Germany)

  • After excelling for the Capilano College Blues, James received a scholarship and became a member of the University of Alberta Bears Basketball Team (2004-2007)
  • Hudson went on to play professionally for our former professional basketball team as a member of the Vancouver Titans in 2009 (International Basketball League)
  • James achieved his personal goal of playing professionally in Europe when he signed a contract with the City Baskets in Recklinghausen, Germany (Professional Basketball League)
  • After a 3 year career in Germany, James came back to Canada working for EA sports and is currently living in California, USA, working in the sports video game industry

LOGAN KITTERINGHAM

Former Trinity Western University Spartan (CIS)

  • In grade 12, Logan received a AAA Provincial All-Star while leading his team to a 4th place finish with WGSS in 2000
  • After high school, Kitteringham was a member of the UCFV Cascades and was named BCCAA Rookie of the Year, 2001
  • The following year, he helped UCFV win a National Championship in 2002 (BCCAA)
  • After a successful college basketball career, he earned a scholarship and became a Spartan with teammate Coach Janzen at Trinity Western University
  • Kitteringham received the CIS Canada West All-Star Award in 2003 (Trinity Western University)
  • Most recently, Logan was involved in coaching the WGSS senior boys basketball team to a Provincial Championship this past year.

ADAM FRIESEN

Former UFV Men’s Basketball Head Coach – Former Trinity Western Spartan & UBC Thunderbird

Friesen guided the Cascades to Canada West Final Four appearances in each of his first three seasons at the helm, culminating with a conference bronze medal in 2014-15. The Cascades have been ranked in the CIS top 10 in each of Friesen’s three seasons. Prior to becoming head coach, Friesen served as an assistant coach with the UFV men’s basketball team for five years. In addition, he has coached at Yale Secondary in Abbotsford.

Friesen is a graduate of Trinity Western University, where he was an All-Canadian point guard for the Spartans. The Bachelor of Arts graduate is TWU’s all-time leading scorer, racking up 1,869 points over 99 games between 2002 and 2005. He also holds Spartans records for career assists (443), points in a season (783 in 2002-03), and assists in a season (183 in 2002-03).

Friesen also suited up for the UBC Thunderbirds in 2006-07, helping the T-Birds to a Canada West title and an appearance at the CIS championship tournament.


VLADIMIR NIKIC

Former KPU Men’s Basketball Head Coach

Coach Nikić holds a Bachelor of Arts, a Bachelor of Education, and is pursuing a Masters of Education in Counselling. He is a former semi-professional player for Vojvodina, a club team in the former Yugoslavia. He is an NCCP Level 3 certified coach, and has coaching experience at the CIS, CCAA, IBS, and FIBA levels.

Coach Nikić is a former coach of BC Basketball’s provincial U-14 and U-17 teams and was involved with the Regional Training Centre. He is also a former referee in the Canada West and PACWEST conferences. In 2015/16 Coach Nikić will be in his second year with the Eagles.

 


DOMINIC ZIMMERMAN

Coach Dominic Zimmerman was a standout point guard for the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds. After an outstanding CIAU career, Dominic Zimmerman played professional basketball in Germany.

Coach Zimmerman is currently a high school teacher and basketball coach at STM.
