COVID Plan
As for our sports covid plan, we will be strictly keeping to the recommendations of viasport & canada/basketballbc. (With the release of the ViaSport https://www.viasport.ca/news/covid-19-updates-sport-organizations and Basketball BC https://www.basketball.bc.ca/return-to-sport
For the next two-weeks (Nov 9 – Nov 23, 2020) we will be heading back to Phase 2 return to play: basketball programs, whereas all players will be required to bring their own ball and not share in any of the drill sessions.
MASKS are required for both parents and players during the pick and drop off process. Parents are politely requested to stay in their vehicles in the parking lot. We are unable to have parents gathering together in the parking lot. Please drop off and stay in your vehicle or you might find the hour a great time to get some errands done or grab a coffee. All players will be asked to wear a mask at arrival (waiting to get into the gym), during the washing hands process, and finding their sports bag location. Masks will be optional in training by players. All Coaches will be wearing masks, when physical distancing is unable.
DAILY HEALTH CHECKING & SCREENING is required. In terms of symptoms, all parents/players are asked to conduct daily health checks. Players will be (screened) asked how they are currently feeling and how they have felt throughout the week, before entering the facility.
Screening Checklist
Most common symptoms:
Fever, dry cough, tiredness
Less common symptoms:
aches and pains, sore throat, diarrhoea, conjunctivitis, headache, loss of taste or smell, a rash on skin, or discolouration of fingers or toes
Serious symptoms:
difficulty breathing or shortness of breath, chest pain or pressure, loss of speech or movement
If a player answers yes to above symptoms, they will not be allowed to participate in the training session for that day. If a player shows signs and symptoms during training parents will be immediately contacted and the player will be picked up.
People with mild symptoms who are otherwise healthy should manage their symptoms at home.
CLEANLINESS:In terms of cleanliness, we would have sanitation stands (work it out with the facility), and provide breaks in play to make sure this was conducted. All water bottles would be left in sports bags, and make clear to drink from their own water bottle. Players would wash and sanitize before entering the gym and when leaving the facility. Masks will be optional, while coaches will need to wear a mask if they are unable to properly physically stay distant.
EQUIPMENT: In terms of equipment, players will bring their own ball in skill development drills. During modified game play, a designated ball will be used, washed frequently. Pinnies will not be used as they will have their own reversibles.
LOGISTICS: In terms of logistics, all coaches will maintain 2 metre from players. No physical contact (ie. High Fives). Groups of cohorts will be created, based on their age/ability. Entrance and Exits will be tightly monitored (one-way entrance, one-way exit). Parents will need to stay in the car. If kids come early, they will wait in the car until their session starts. Apon arrival, players will be required to wear a mask, go through a screening process, and wash their hands. Masks are optional within in the training segment. We will politely ask for quick transitions (ie. When the session is complete, players will be asked to quickly grab their sports bags and exit directly to parents car). Again, we ask that social time in the parking lot does not occur, and all participants head home.
Daily Health check – stress the daily. Symptoms – fever, chills, cough, worsening of chronic cough, shortness of breath, loss of sense of smell or taste, diarrhea, nausea or vomiting. If they are sick with other symptoms like a sore throat, runny nose, pink eye or any other contagious illness, they must stay home.
Travel – if they have been outside of Canada in the last 14 days or if someone they live with has travelled or has arrived at their house from outside of Canada they must not come to basketball for 14 days.
Exposure – if they attend a school where they have an outbreak they can not attend basketball for 14 days. If they are a confirmed contact of a person that has COVID-19 they can’t attend basketball.
Only program participants will enter the gym. Participants should arrive no earlier that 5 minutes before their start time.
Dr. Henry is recommending only one sport at this time. Parents should not socialize in the parking lot while waiting for the program to begin and end. If parents need to communicate physical distancing and mask should be woren.
